RapidSOS is partnering with GeoComm to provide public safety agencies that use GeoComm 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) mapping systems with accurate location and additional data from the RapidSOS Clearinghouse.

To showcase the partnership, we performed comparative location testing with GeoComm at the city of Frisco in North Central Texas in December 2016. Over the course of the test, 15 test calls were placed to North Central Texas Council of Governments 9-1-1 system, predominantly from indoor environments. Location from mobile native 9-1-1 calls was captured through traditional 9-1-1 location mechanisms and was compared to device-based hybrid handset location sent to RapidSOS.

What's special about this pilot testing is that there was no app involved. Calls were made by dialing 9-1-1 on a regular phone dialer and improved location information was transmitted in the background. Combined with GeoComm's indoor mapping solution, this meant that the calltakers could see where the caller was located, even inside of buildings. Knowing not just what building the caller is in, but which room inside the building - that "dispatchable location" is the holy grail of 9-1-1 location. These were our key findings:
